The Evolution Of The Murphy Bed

I have been sourcing and creating custom designs for murphy beds for many years.  We use them on projects where we need an extra “proper” bed, that can be hidden away.

We recently installed a fabulous convertible bed/dining table for our client’s small space on the water in New Jersey.  We had worked in this building previously, on a 3-bedroom apartment for long-time clients, when our present client saw our work and hired us.

His space was much more challenging, requiring us to think outside the box.  We flipped the narrative, turning the bedroom into the living room (the one room with a spectacular view) and the tiny living space became the bedroom by night and dining area by day.

I cannot wait to show you professional photos with the space staged, coming this summer, but for now, here is a sneak peak on install day.

Let’s talk about our experience at Resource Furniture.   Challie Stillman, now a VP, was my student many years ago.  She began as an intern, during her tenure at FIT, and has been with Resource ever since.  I love the convertible nature of each and every product they sell.  They have aligned with high quality craftsmen in Italy and the attention to detail, function and ease of use is bar-none.  They spend time educating the client on every aspect of their furniture, and the murphy bed/dining table we selected was a perfect fit for our clients’ small space.

We needed to switch his laundry room door to a barn door to save space and accommodate two matching closets, one on either side of the bed, so we could gain more storage and function for the client.  They precisely cut in for outlets, added bedside lights and finished with a custom mattress, including custom-sized sheets to match.   The headboard is upholstered, and the entire unit is so easy to use.  Our client is thrilled!
